Dianne Petrant defended her 2019 Ladies Singles crown but Alice Kwan proved the queen-maker, knocking off the leading competitor Rosemary Cryer in their final round-robin match at Elm Park on Aug. 11.
After Kwan upset Cryer with her only win of the three-game, round-robin, Petrant needed only to beat Brenda Rhodes in her final third-round game to win the Kerrisdale club ladies' title on point differential.
However, the outcome was not a forgone conclusion. A victory over Petrant would have resulted in Rhodes capturing her first club crown.
The final tally was Dianne Petrant with a championship best 6 pts and a +21 differential, while Rosemary Cryer finished runner-up with 6 pts and a - 7 differential.
Alice Kwan nipped Brenda Rhodes for third place by a differential on two points after both finished with a single win apiece.
